Saying Goodbye
We understand that saying goodbye is one of the hardest decisions you will ever have to make.
If you think it may be the right time for euthanasia, we will work with you to ensure everything is as peaceful as possible. We can arrange a quiet time at the clinic or a home visit.
We understand that making decisions about euthanasia can be hard; we are always here to talk through it with you.
Pet cremation
We offer two options for pet cremation:
Normal cremation: ashes are not returned. The crematorium facility is not operated for just one pet alone.
Private cremation: your pet's ashes are returned. The crematorium facility is operated solely for your individual pet.
If you choose a private cremation for your pet, you have a choice of how their ashes are returned. Caskets are included in the price of the private cremation, with oak, mahogany, photo frame and carved wooden options, a tribute box, a sleeping cat, a scatter tube, a scatter cushion or an urn. Keepsakes such as a paw print in clay or a wooden heart are also available at an additional cost.
Bereavement support
The Blue Cross offer a Bereavement Support Service which includes a free phone line. Many people have found this compassionate service very supportive.

Our Head Nurse, Anna Baker, holds both NCert and CertAVN qualifications in anaesthesia. Debbie Burden also holds an advanced anaesthesia qualification, while Dara McClintock has achieved a nursing certificate in anaesthesia.
Their knowledge and experience help support safe, carefully monitored anaesthetics and individualised care throughout surgical procedures.
Pain Management & Patient Comfort
Keeping pets comfortable is something we’re particularly passionate about.
Laura-Marie Eakin and Lisa Stewart both hold advanced qualifications in analgesia and pain management, while Kathryn McGreevy has achieved the WSAVA Certificate in Pain Management.
Together with our wider team’s training, this expertise helps us recognise, prevent and manage pain throughout your pet’s treatment and recovery.
Emergency Care & Additional Expertise
Debbie Burden also holds a Certificate in Veterinary Nursing Emergency and Critical Care, bringing valuable skills to the management of seriously ill patients.
Our nurses bring further strengths across orthopaedic nursing, diagnostic imaging, dentistry, clinical coaching and preventative healthcare. Lisa Stewart and Laura Reid also hold C-SQP qualifications, enabling them to prescribe and supply certain categories of veterinary medicines within their professional remit.
We’re equally proud of the skills and dedication of our wider nursing team, including Charlene Campbell, and of supporting the next generation of veterinary professionals.
Penny Wright is training to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse, while Grace Hamill, our Veterinary Care Assistant, was recognised as Veterinary Assistant of the Year at the National Pet Awards NI 2026.

It’s something many pet owners don’t realise!
Under the direction of a veterinary surgeon, and with appropriate training, Registered Veterinary Nurses can undertake certain minor surgical procedures that don’t involve entering a body cavity.
Our nurses are also involved in virtually every stage of your pet’s surgical journey, from preparing them for theatre and carefully monitoring their anaesthetic to providing pain relief, wound care and recovery support.
Their expertise is an essential part of the high standard of surgical care we provide at Ashwood Vets.

At Ashwood Vets, we're proud to offer an extensive range of advanced surgical procedures, diagnostic investigations and medical treatments within our own practice.
With our experienced veterinary team, modern facilities and comprehensive diagnostic equipment, we can investigate and treat many conditions that might otherwise require a visit to a specialist referral hospital.
We also welcome enquiries and referrals from other veterinary practices.

Advanced Orthopaedic Surgery
Our orthopaedic service, led by vets Patrick McKee and Niall Thompson, provides comprehensive investigations and surgical treatment for a wide range of conditions, including cruciate ligament injuries, luxating patellas, fractures and complex lameness cases.
With additional surgical qualifications, extensive experience and modern surgical equipment, our team can provide tailored treatment and ongoing care for orthopaedic patients.
Advanced Soft Tissue Surgery
Our experienced veterinary surgeons perform a wide variety of advanced soft tissue procedures, including abdominal and gastrointestinal surgery, bladder surgery, airway procedures, tumour removal, reconstructive surgery and complex wound management.
Every patient benefits from individualised anaesthetic planning, tailored pain relief and attentive nursing care throughout their stay.
Keyhole (Laparoscopic) Surgery
Our minimally invasive keyhole surgery service includes keyhole spays for female dogs, removal of retained abdominal testicles and selected abdominal investigations and biopsies.
Using specialised cameras and instruments through small incisions, keyhole surgery can reduce postoperative discomfort and help patients recover more quickly compared with traditional open procedures.
Advanced Medical & Diagnostic Care
Our comprehensive diagnostic facilities allow us to investigate a wide range of medical and surgical conditions.
These include digital radiography, ultrasonography, IDEXX in-house blood and urine analysers, microscopy, dental radiography, video rhinoscopy and laparoscopic equipment.
Having these facilities readily available supports prompt investigations, accurate diagnoses and carefully planned treatment.
Access to Advanced CT & MRI Imaging
Although CT and MRI scanners are not located within our own practice, we have access to these advanced imaging services at nearby facilities.
We regularly arrange outpatient CT and MRI scans for our patients, with the results and specialist imaging reports returned to our veterinary team.
This allows us to incorporate advanced imaging into our own investigations and, where appropriate, continue further diagnostic work, treatment or surgery here at Ashwood.
For many pets, this means benefiting from advanced imaging without needing to transfer their entire veterinary care elsewhere.
Referrals From Other Veterinary Practices
We welcome enquiries and referrals from fellow veterinary professionals, particularly for orthopaedic investigations, lameness assessments and surgical procedures within our team's expertise.
We understand the importance of working collaboratively with referring vets and aim to provide a straightforward, approachable service with clear communication throughout.
Our team is happy to discuss individual cases before referral to determine whether our facilities and experience are appropriate for the patient's needs.
